Web-site startup forecasts

Thanks a lot for you help before, Gil.

Today I am planning the financials for another web startup, and have the following questions:

  1. Forecasting the amounts of users for the website - I know that this should be done per month for the initial 1-2 years at least, and general figures could be obtained from sampling similar existing websites for their statistics - but are there any tips on what the initial figures would be for the first 6 months for example, after it is merely launched, and marketed via ad networks / traffic exchange networks / google ads / etc. - for example whether the amounts of visitors double each month, what's the regular growth rate, etc.
  2. Marketing strategy - as stated above, there could be various methods to market the website after launch, including the use of traffic networks that promise to bring certain amounts of users per month, the use of advertising networks, etc. - any general words of advice on this issue?
  3. Forecasting conversion rate - the website will contain non-free content aside regular free content, are there any generic conversion rates in the sales world I could rely my initial forecasts on?

Chief Scientist Tnufa program

Hi.

Anybody here received funding through Tnufa program ?

My question actually is the following - in order to use Tnufa money one has to register as "osek murshe". This is fine, however the problem may arise when you actually going to raise additional capital and create a company. At this stage you will have to close your "osek murshe" and transfer all your intellectual property (patents, etc) to a newly created company. My fear is that this event may be taxable, i.e. I'm afraid that they will want to tax that investment.

Seed-investment clarifications

Hi guys,

First of all I'd like to commend you - this site is packed with interesting news (I specifically like the aggregator), and it's nice to see more informative sites destined for the Israeli entrepreneurship community.

On to my question - I am working with several partners on a Web 2.0 start-up, we've got a prototype done, an executive summary, have a document we wrote for ourselves for the idea (not really a business plan yet), getting a presentation ready, and we are planning on meeting with investors soon and present our project.

The project is in its seed stage, we want financing in order to develop a beta from the prototype, as well as file for patents, conducting more market research, etc.

Business Plan Competitions

we students at London Business School created a new business plan competition last year that might be interesting for many startups from Israel: The Global Security Challenge looks for emerging technologies/startups in the security technology space and awards a $500,000 grant to the winning entrepreneurs. The competition is open to innovators from around the world and submission deadline is June 30th. more info at: www.globalsecuritychallenge.com

The Financial Statements

Hi! My name is Igor.I'm doing now MBA in Taiwan. My question is related to the Financial statements of the Start-Up companies. Is it possible to see it ( like what we can do for the public companies). Also , my research is also related to the Start-Up comanies that have been closed during decline period :2002-2003. Is there any chance to see their financial statements ( cashe flow , balance sheet , etc) Please advise. Thanks!

Checking the market.

Hi, I have a great idea for a new net software that targets a specific part of the market - but a considerable part of it (especially since it has international potential). I've developed a simple sketch and tried it with some people around me and it is well accepted and utilized until now. The question is, what is the best cost-effective way to test the relevant market and see if the demand is really there? How do I do it without compromising secrecy? Thanks, Yaniv
