Metalgrass software has announced a new web service called Video Alerts. It's a simple (and free) service that sends email alerts when new videos are available (currently YouTube only). It can be useful for bloggers who want to be the first to find new videos, information officers, and everyone that has a favorite artist or topic he wants to follow.
Wix raised 3.5M$
Submitted by startup on October 14, 2008 - 06:55.Wix just announced a 3.5M$ funding round from Mangrove Venture Capital and Bessemer Ventures. Wix allows users to easily create flash-based web pages, and plans to charge a small monthly fee to give an ad-free version.
Xpanity raised 1.5M$
Submitted by ron on August 10, 2008 - 17:23.Xpanity, who's doing a Internet Explorer plug-in that allows readers of the same web-site to communicate, raised 1.5M$. It's not a new idea - several companies tried to do this in the past (including some Israeli ones). Interestingly, they do not offer a Firefox plug-in yet.
Delver launches their social-search site

PLYmedia raised 6M$
Submitted by ron on July 16, 2008 - 11:44.PLYmedia (platform for interactive viewing of video on the web) has just raised 6M$, in a second round, from Greylock capital, and Elron group. PLYmedia was founded in 2006, and has 25 employees.
Metalgrass software offers free Toolbar for AdSense publishers

Metalgrass software (by Ron Mertens) is now offering a free toolbar for AdSense publishers. The toolbar can monitor the AdSense account, offering easy access to basic statistics. It also include popular links and blogs related to web publishing and AdSense, and a few other gadgets. The toolbar was built using Conduit's platform.
Develop a facebook app, win an iPhone and help with marketing it

They will have 5 categories (cellular, media, games, commerce and 'open-for-all'), and each will have a winner, who'll get an iPhone and help with marketing her application.
Peer39 raised 8M$
Submitted by ron on November 11, 2007 - 08:32.Peer39 has finished their round B financing, raising a total of 8.2M$ from Dawntreader Ventures, HighBridge capital and other investors. Peer39 developed a system that allows you to match the ad content to the content - according to user interaction. Basically these are tools that are supposed to really 'understand' the text using Natural Language Processing tools, and machine learnings.
Dapper - turning widgets into Facebook apps
Submitted by ron on September 28, 2007 - 08:07.Dapper today announced AppMaker, a tool that lets you turn any”Dapp” into its own Facebook app. The service launched with apps created by partners Answers.com and MTV. Dapper is focusing more on content syndication and allows for more powerful look and feel customization.
Facebook platform - travel applications
Submitted by ron on June 11, 2007 - 17:15.A little while back, Facebook announced their 'platform' platform. Basically they opened up a way for others to write applications for facebook. The idea is that people can now enrich their facebook profile. Writing a facebook application is quite easy. They have an API which can be used to create those applications, query the facebook databases (for example to find all friends of a certain user) and they even implemented FBML (FaceBook Markup Language) - a sort of a mini HTML that makes sure that all application will have a common look, and also includes some nice short-cuts to access facebook information.
